Monaghan chase crucial points against Mayo

After a one-point loss, a win and a dramatic draw, Monaghan’s Allianz National Football League Division One campaign reaches a pivotal stage with this Sunday’s fourth-round game at home to Mayo. Monaghan and Mayo are two of the four teams deadlocked on three points after as many games in a tightly-packed table where just a single point separates seven sides.

Monaghan will be fairly satisfied with their performances so far, albeit with a nagging sense of having left points behind them in both away games: the opener against Galway and last time out, when Dublin kept going right to the end to share the spoils at Croke Park. Mayo, meanwhile, have snatched points in the dying minutes of two of their games, with a last-gasp James Durcan goal giving them a draw against Donegal and Kevin McLoughlin’s heroics off the bench helping them…
