Thirteen candidates have put their names on the ballot paper in the Cavan Monaghan constituency for the general election. Nominations closed at midday yesterday, when the forms had to be submitted to the returning officer in Cavan. The following people have put their names in the hat for what promises to be an interesting election, with the constituency restored from four Dáil seats to five. It now takes in both counties, as well as the addition of around 3,900 people from part of Meath East in the Drumconrath area near Carrickmacross.

Polling day will be on Saturday 8th February, the first time in the history of the state that voters will be casting their ballot at the weekend in a general election.
