Pictured is Katie Duffy, Shankill, Bawn, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, 21st January 2020, receiving a presentation on behalf of the local community from Mary Duffy, Paddy Deighan, Kevin Gartland and Eamon McElroy. Katie is the oldest person in the parish of Bawn and Latton and is wished many more years of health and happiness.

Born in th townland of Fairtha in the Bawn area she married local man, Michael Duffy and together they reared ten children, six boys and four girls. She has 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Nee McEneany, she is a really out-going person and loves nothing better than a chat with her neighbours and friends. Testimony to this was the steady flow of wellwishers who called to her home on Tuesday.

A lady of great faith she marked the occasion with a special Mass in her home celebrated by local priest, Fr. Tom Quigley. Katie has a great interest in her local community and no matter what the occasion in the parish was over the years she was there to support. She has great time for the youth. Katie attributes her longevity to good country living, stress free and wholesome food.
