CO MONAGHAN TEXT ALERT NETWORK COULD BE POWERFUL ROAD SAFETY TOOL – COUNCILLOR MCELVANEY

Using the network of community text alert schemes in Co Monaghan to enhance road safety measures was advocated by Independent member of Monaghan Co Council Hugh McElvaney when the Co Monaghan Joint Policing Committee met on Tuesday last. Councillor McElvaney called for the text alert service in place to be extended to encompass road safety and be used to alert the Gardaí about instances of dangerous driving or other motoring offences that people observed on the roads of their areas.

Referring to crime statistics put before the meeting by the Gardaí, Councillor McElvaney said he welcomed the fact that there had been no recent fatalities on the roads of Co Monaghan, but he couldn’t understand the reduction in dangerous driving offences that the figures from the Gardaí indicated because this was something he was looking at every day.
