A definitive solution for the periodic flooding problems that beset Monaghan Town was vital to the future of the local economy, Senator Robbie Gallagher said this week. The Cavan/Monaghan representative welcomed the announcement this week that €0.5 million was being made available for flood alleviation measures in the town, and indications at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council that the local authority will commence in April of next year work on culverts in the town centre which will form an important component of providing a full solution to the flooding problems (see Monaghan Town News).
