While the deadline for the receipt of public submissions on the major national road scheme to take place on the N2 from Ardee to Castleblayney will not be further officially extended, a lenient attitude will be taken towards the acceptance of submissions received in the weeks following the deadline, it was stated at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council.

The compromise position was reached after adjournment of discussion of an urgent business motion put forward by Fianna Fáil councillor Aoife McCooey and Aidan Campbell of Fine Gael. This requested Monaghan Co Council to appeal to Transport Infrastructure Ireland to extend the submission deadline until Friday January 31 2020 to accommodate those affected by the N2 Ardee-Castleblayney scheme in making “strong and fully informed submissions”.

Councillors McCooey and Campbell expressed concerns on behalf of communities potentially affected by the Ardee to Castleblayney portion of the N2 scheme, citing recent public mobilisations on the issue in areas such as Donaghmoyne and Annalitten. They appealed…
