REACHING OUT WITH KINDNESS – HELP, SOLACE AND SUPPORT TO THE FORE AT MONAGHAN SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS EVENT

Calls for better co-ordination of the support services available to people at risk of or bereaved by suicide in Co Monaghan were made at a suicide prevention awareness event organised by the mental health group Solas in Monaghan Town’s Westenra Arms Hotel last Thursday evening. But perhaps the chief emphasis of the occasion, which drew a large audience, was on the importance of reaching out with kindness to people experiencing a mental health crisis or who have lost a loved one who has taken their own life. The need to be a receptive and active listener, and how one could acquire or hone those skills, was a recurrent theme in the addresses.
