BREXIT MUST REMAIN TOP OF IRELAND’S ENTERPRISE AGENDA, COUNTY COUNCIL TOLD

Brexit was at the top of Ireland’s enterprise agenda and was the most significant economic challenge of the last 40 years, the members of Monaghan Co Council were told on Monday. The county’s Head of Enterprise John McEntegart said that Brexit represented a huge challenge for Irish companies as the UK was the largest market for indigenous business, accounting for €7.5 billion or 37% of indigenous exports, and 15% of all exports.

The UK, particularly Northern Ireland, was often the first export market for Irish companies. In a presentation to the October meeting of the Council, Mr McEntegart outlined the role of the Monaghan Local Enterprise Office in encouraging SMEs in the county to prepare and mobilise for Brexit, stating that the objective of the Monaghan LEO was to strengthen business to deal with any kind of Brexit outcome.
