It was announced yesterday that R&S Printers Limited in Monaghan Town is to close at the end of October with the loss of seven jobs. The company has issued the following media statement in relation to the closure: It is with deep regret that the management of R&S Printers Limited, The Diamond, Monaghan have to announce that the company is to close at the end of October. The decision has been made reluctantly and after an extensive process in which all other options available to the company thoroughly investigated.

The decision is an inevitable response to current market conditions in the commercial printing sphere. Discussions are currently taking place with the seven affected workers. All statutory redundancy and other obligations will be met by the company. R&S Printers Ltd is a longestablished, family-run business that has played an important role in the commercial and employment life of Monaghan Town and the surrounding area for decades.

It is a moment of great sadness for the management of the company to have to make this exceptionally difficult but inevitable decision. We wish to place on record our deep appreciation for the loyalty, dedication and hard work of our current and previous staff members who contributed to R&S Printers Ltd enjoying a strong reputation for excellence and reliability over many years. We wish also to thank our customers for their support.

The company will continue trading until the closure date and all jobs currently in production will be completed and existing obligations honoured. Following the closure, the printing of the newspaper of our sister company The Northern Standard Ltd will be outsourced. Details of this arrangement will be made known in due course. The operation and publication of the Northern Standard is not affected by the decision to close the commercial printing works. The company will be making no further statement on the matter beyond this media release.
