New Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service launched for Monaghan and Cavan

A NEW SERVICE to support people bereaved by suicide was this week launched for the Cavan and Monaghan area at the Tanagh Outdoor Centre, Cootehill — and heralded as a means by which loved ones affected by such a tragedy will be listened to with empathy and in a non-judgmental way.

Coinciding, appropriately, with World Suicide Prevention Day, the Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service for Cavan and Monaghan was launched on Tuesday and will be funded by the HSE and delivered through Pieta House. Michael McGinn, who has been appointed Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officer (SBLO) for Cavan and Monaghan, explained that his role would be primarily to offer a “listening ear” and emotional support to people who have been bereaved by suicide.
