BUS PASSENGERS BEING “LEFT ON THE ROAD” IN MONAGHAN – COUNCILLOR AUGHEY

Inadequacies in the Bus Éireann transport provision for Monaghan were leading to instances where some intending passengers were being “left on the road”, Fianna Fáil councillor Raymond Aughey told Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council. Councillor Aughey had a motion adopted asking the Co Council including its Tourism Section to actively engage with Bus Éireann to address a number of issues.

The FF representative’s motion called for improvement works to be carried out at the town’s bus station, noting that the toilet facilities were in need of particular attention. It also sought “immediate clarification” of issues relating to the bus services that passed through Emyvale, Monaghan, Castleblayney and Carrickmacross; and asked that “a partnership and strategy of copromotion” be introduced to address situations where buses arriving in Monaghan were full or late, where a service had been cancelled, and where the toilets…
