Inniskeen made a winning start to the SFC when they held off a valiant challenge from Currin in searing heat at Aughnamullen last Sunday. Inniskeen looked set for a fairly comfortable win during the first half, with Seán Jones, Andrew Woods and the Meegans causing Currin headaches, but the SFL’s bottom team belied their league form with their second-half comeback that took this game down to the wire. Jack McCarron hit 1-8 to keep Currin in with a chance of a shock win, but Inniskeen, who had nine scorers in all, held on.

Inniskeen went direct straight from the throw-in for Dónal Meegan to open the scoring, but Jack Mc- Carron brought Currin level when he converted a ’45 in the fourth minute. A Paul Meegan block allowed Ciarán McNulty to regain the lead for Inniskeen, who quickly went three clear via a brace from SFC debutant Seán Jones – the first after good work by Paul Meegan and Andrew Woods and the second after Gavin Dooley had caught the…
