DAMAGE TO BRAGAN PICNIC AREA REPORTED TO GARDAÍ

Vandals who smashed up a picnic area near the penal cross at Sliabh Beagh last weekend have been strongly condemned by local Councillors. Cllr Cathy Bennett issued pictures of the damage which appear to show how a car was deliberately driven into a wooden fence and information signs. The picnic area and signage were upgraded earlier this year by Ballybay Clones Municipal District as part of a master plan for the development of Sliabh Beagh.

Since the local elections in May, the Knockatallon area comes under Monaghan Municipal District, which is sharing the costs of the improvements being made there. They include the revamped picnic area and the installation nearby of a large bronze sculpture depicting the mythological figure Bith, which will feature on all future branding for the area. A spokesperson for the Municipal District said the damage had been reported to them on Sunday and appeared to have been caused on Saturday….
