CAMPAIGNERS CLAIM GOVERNMENT ‘COLLUDING IN A ROTTEN PROCESS”

Anti-pylon campaigners opposed to EirGrid’s plans for an overhead high voltage line across five counties and with over 400 pylons have reacted angrily to the revelation by a government Minister that ESB Networks has awarded the contract for design, test and supply of the steelwork relating to the project. The North East Pylon Pressure Campaign said further questioning in the Dáil by Fianna Fáil Deputy Brendan Smith revealed that the government was in its opinion “colluding in a rotten process”.

Deputy Smith’s questions (supplemented by three more) confirmed two things, according to the NEPPC. Firstly, that the current government and Minister Bruton in particular are washing their hands of any responsibility or accountability in the interconnector project.
