With the increasing likelihood of the United Kingdom exiting the European Union in four months’ time without any negotiated deal, businesses in Co. Monaghan are being advised to prepare their companies and clients for all eventualities. Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD told a seminar at the Four Seasons Hotel on Monday that the government was not planning for a hard border. A day later, the government’s updated Brexit contingency plan was published, recognising that there is now a significant risk of a ‘no deal’ Brexit on 31st October that will be ‘highly disruptive’ (see separate report inside).
