A motion by Cllr Hughie McElvaney which was debated in his absence received unanimous support from his fellow Councillors at their monthly meeting. The motion was put to the floor by the Cathaoirleach Cllr Seamus Coyle as Cllr McElvaney had to leave the meeting early. The motion called for the Council to seek a meeting with the Minister of Health Simon Harris TD and Minister of State Jim Daly and a delegation of civil servants from the Department of Health to discuss the ongoing crisis faced by the people of Monaghan in relation to the Home Support Services.

Cllr Coyle said there was huge suffering at the minute as some patients in acute beds are being asked to go home if someone is there and others are having to stay in hospital. Cllr Pat Treanor said he had seen a letter from the HSE Home Support Service and quoted one case where a local woman …
