PLANS UNVEILED FOR N2 ROAD UPGRADE FROM CASTLEBLAYNEY TO ARDEE

As the biggest infrastructure project of its type ever undertaken by Monaghan County Council gets underway, engineers have been holding public consultations this week about plans to upgrade a 32km section of the N2 road from Castleblayney to Ardee. The consultations today in Ardee, on Tuesday in Castleblayney and yesterday in Carrickmacross were to show local residents, farmers and businesses the study area for the new road and to confirm the various design constraints such as landscape and environmental factors, including protected monuments.

The existing N2 national road from Dublin to Letterkenny and Derry is reaching capacity for the type of road it is. It’s expected that in future the traffic will increase still further. So the designers are trying to come up with the most feasible route. The section from Ardee to Castleblayney is being developed with the support of Transport Infrastructure Ireland in parallel with a similar upgrade along the N2 from Clontibret to the border near Aughnacloy, which will eventually link….
