PRESSURE’S ON MONAGHAN …BUT ONLY JUST!

‘Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin’ – there’s no place like home. No place like the provincial championships as Cavan and Donegal supporters would have you know this week. Monaghan and Armagh are where they are. And this Saturday’s (7pm) crunch secondround Qualifier in Clones presents as much an opportunity as a challenge for both crews. To paraphrase another phrase, pressure is for tyres. However, there’s little doubt but that all belonging to the Monaghan and Armagh camps will be hot under collar this weekend ‘till the dust settles about 8.30pm . . . unless extra-time is required. Will there be extra-time required?

The odds are that very little, if anything, will separate the teams on Saturday evening. Neither Monaghan or Armagh have any reason to look down their noses at each other this year. Both will feel that they have the wherewithal to make it into the next round although one doubts that any gael…
