FIRST MUNICIPAL DISTRICT MEETING OF TERM ELECTS KEELAN AS CATHAOIRLEACH

The inaugural meeting of Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District (MD) for the fiveyear term 2019-2024 took place on Monday afternoon in the Civic Offices. It was called to order by MD Co-ordinator Gareth McMahon. As usual, it was decided that the position of Cathaoirleach would be rotated around the parties, as follows: Sinn Féin (year one), Fine Gael (year two), Fianna Fáil (year three), and for the final two years, party names were drawn out of a hat, with Fine Gael (year four) and Fianna Fáíl taking the chair for the fifth and final year in the run up to the next local elections.

Mr. McMahon welcomed everyone present and called for nominations for the first Cathaoirleach of the term, it had already been pre-determined that Sinn Féin would occupy the seat, so Cllr. Colm Carthy, who was vacating the position, nominated his party colleague Noel…
