MONAGHAN MUNICIPAL MEMBERS TO MEET GARDAÍ ON DUBLIN STREET ISSUE

It was revealed at Monday morning’s meeting of Monaghan Municipal District, that the six present members, will meet with Gardaí to discuss the recent civil unrest in Monaghan Town’s Dublin Street. The meeting will take place in Monaghan Garda Station at 2.30pm on Friday, May 31st. The debate arose out of the need for public CCTV in the town, which had been held up because of new data protection regulations. However, it was noted during the Municipal District Co-ordinator’s Report delivered by Donal McElwain, that efforts would be made to progress the scheme.

The fact that cameras were coming in cheaper than expected on the proposed scheme was something that was welcomed by Fine Gael Councillor David Maxwell, as “a good news story.” Cathaoirleach Brian McKenna stated that plans to introduce public CCTV were 90% complete. Independent representative Seamus Treanor said that CCTV should be all over town, concentrated on areas where people congregated, then at least those who were causing trouble….
