There was a major breakthrough in the long-running saga over ground rents in Carrickmacross on Tuesday, when the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, introduced the new Landlord and Tenant Ground Rents Amendment Bill 2019 in the Dáil. At the end of the brief debate the Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl remarked it was not often that legislation passed its second stage so quickly.

A GREAT EXAMPLE OF NEW POLITICS: HUMPHREYS
After hearing contributions by Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin representatives, Minister Humphreys stated: “Sometimes new politics is much maligned, but this is a great example of what can be achieved with cross-party support on an important issue like this, which impacts on a great number of people in Carrickmacross.
