At Monday’s Monaghan County Council meeting, Cllr. Aidan Campbell asked for an update on the Market House, Castleblayney, because he understood that there was some news in that regard. The Fine Gael representative’s comments came during the discussion of the Chief Executive Eamonn O’Sullivan’s report. Sinn Féin Cllr. Jackie Crowe echoed his fellow elected member’s request.

A written statement was issued as follows, dated 13th May, 2019: “Monaghan County Council is unable to complete a Structural Survey and Assessment of the Market House building as it is unsafe to enter the site at present, due to the potential collapse of the remaining roof and debris from the collapsed internal wall. “Having consulted with Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and under the guidance of its appointed Conservation Architects, Gaffney and Cullivan Architects, the Council tendered for specialist contractors to remove…
