Monaghan minors face Down in Clones

Monaghan’s minor footballers start their Ulster title defence in Clones this Saturday. Just a week after having to go to extra- time in the Ulster MFL Final, Monaghan are in action again as they take on Down in the preliminary round of the provincial championship. Monaghan started what would prove to be an epic championship campaign with an extra-time defeat against Derry 12 months ago, before coming back to claim only the county’s second Ulster MFC since 1945.

Monaghan recovered from losing their opening game in this year’s Ulster league to reach the final with three straight wins to top the Section A standings, but they were unable to build on a strong start against Tyrone in Maghera last Saturday. Tyrone eventually pulled away in extra-time to end Monaghan’s bid to retain the Jim McGuigan Cup, but focus will have immediately turned…
