Monaghan’s senior footballers received a short-term boost and a potentially much longer-lasting blow this week. The bad news came via a serious injury that Darren Hughes suffered in Scotstown’s Shoe City Senior Football League game against Ballybay last Sunday. A fractured ankle is expected to keep the experienced Scotstown man out for 10-12 weeks and with Monaghan’s resources in the midfield area already being stretched during 2019 to date, particularly in the long-term absence of 2018 All-Star nominee Niall Kearns, this will be a headache for Malachy O’Rourke ahead…
