During the week the newly selected local elections candidate for Aontú, the new political group founded by former Sinn Fein deputy Peadar Toibin, Mr. James Duffy called on Monaghan County Council to clarify reports that €1.4 million was paid out in an insurance claim for Hope Castle, and to clarify if this payment was made, where, in fact, had the money gone ?

With regard to the continuing deterioration of the Market House, Mr. Duffy said that on behalf of the local James Connolly Cumann of Aontú they were anxious to establish if any funds were sought by the local authority for the restoration of the town’s landmark building.
