MAJOR MONAGHAN MD FINANCIAL COMMITMENT FOR BIO-ECONOMY PROJECT AND ROSSMORE PARK

The members of the Monaghan Municipal District gave approval on Monday to substantial financial contributions in support of the development of the Rossmore Forest Park amenity in Monaghan Town and the bioeconomy research centre project to be developed at Knockaconny.

The Municipal District will contribute €370,000 to the research and development initiative in which Monaghan Mushrooms is playing a leading role. Members also approved a matching fund commitment of €250,000 in support of major enhancements in train at Rossmore, in which the local authority have taken on a lead development role following the signing of a memorandum of understanding some time ago with the forestry authority Coillte.

The allocations represent the first significant utilisation of funding which the Municipal District have been putting in place over recent years to support economic development projects in their area. Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation and Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan Heather Humphreys said it was now “full speed ahead” for the bioeconomy research initiative…
