’BLAYNEY MAN’S IRA TRIAL HEARS BOMB COMPONENT EVIDENCE

A ‘booster tubE’ found in a shed in Monaghan in 2016 is similar to one discovered within a homemade “beer keg bomb” found in a Co louth church carpark two years earlier, a Special Criminal Court IRA trial has heard. Mechanic James Joseph Cassidy (55) of Tullycollive, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, is on trial for IRA membership. He has pleaded not guilty to being a member of an unlawful organisation styling itself as the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Óglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA, within the State in September 2016. The court previously heard evidence about how a black metal pipe with drilled holes was discovered in a shed on land accessible to Mr Cassidy…
