VETERAN CAMPAIGNER HOPES “RENEWED DESIRE” WILL BE AWAKENED IN MONAGHAN PUBLIC FOR HOSPITAL FIGHT

“I hope meetings like this will awaken a renewed desire by the public to support any campaign organised, irrespective of politics, to get the services we need back into Monaghan Hospital,” veteran hospital campaigner Peadar McMahon told a public meeting organised by Sinn Féin in the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan Town on Wednesday last, January 9.

The Monaghan Community Alliance leader said many people living in its catchment area thought they would never need Monaghan Hospital and ignored campaigns for better services there. This weakened the campaigning voice and the pressure politicians tried to put on Government. The meeting, on the theme of ‘A Future for Monaghan Hospital?, was convened by SF’s MEP for the Midlands North West Matt Carthy and addressed by the party’s Cavan/Monaghan TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin and the SF Spokesperson on Health Louise O’Reilly TD.
