The passing on Saturday, October 20 last at the age of 74 of the former Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan Seymour Crawford, Drumkeen, Aghabog, has evoked widespread sadness throughout Co Monaghan and drawn tributes from leaders of church and State and across the entire political spectrum for the public achievements and personal qualities of the stalwart politician and campaigner.
Deputy Crawford passed away peacefully in hospital following a long illness which he bore with characteristic fortitude and stoicism. Belonging to that elite caste of politician who never lost an election, he began his representative career as a member of Monaghan Co Council, serving on the local authority body from 1991 to 2003 (when the removal of the “dual mandate” that allowed Oireachtas members….
