“FUNDING NEEDED FOR LOCAL PROJECTS” – CO COUNCIL REJECTS SF PROPOSAL TO REDUCE LOCAL PROPERTY TAX

The fact that revenue generated by the Local Property Tax in Co Monaghan gave discretionary funding to the county’s three Municipal Districts to support local community projects was cited as justification by a succession of members of Monaghan Co Council on Monday when they decided to reject a Sinn Féin proposal to cut the levy.

A show of hands vote at the Council’s monthly meeting produced an 11-7 outcome in favour of retaining the LPT at its existing rate. The SF members had sought a 7.5% reduction in the tax but received no support outside their party ranks for the proposal.
