WALKERS, RUNNERS AND CYCLISTS THE FOCUS IN BANK HOLIDAY ROAD SAFETY INITIATIVE

Walkers, runners and cyclists are the particular focus of a road safety initiative being conducted by Monaghan Co Council for the forthcoming August Bank Holiday weekend. In a media release, the local authority stated: “As we approach the August Bank Holiday weekend, traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the year on our roads, Monaghan Co Council Roads Section together with Monaghan’s Fire & Civil Protection, wish to remind all vulnerable road users of the dangers of using the hard shoulder on national roads in the county. “Pedestrians and cyclists out for a leisurely walk or spin on these roads will face increased volumes of traffic thundering past them just feet away at speeds of 100km/h or higher.” Speaking about the dangers of using national roads for walking, running and cycling, Adrian O’Sullivan, Road Safety Officer with Monaghan Co Council said, “We are fortunate that we have had no serious incidents involving organised….
