Queen smitten by Elizabeth’s mittens!

Michael McDonnell

IT’S NOT the kind of correspondence that drops through one’s letterbox every second day, but one is undoubtedly rather chuffed when one opens one’s mail to read the following somewhat succinct yet elegantly scripted memo under a Buckingham Palace letterhead:

9th July 2018 Dear Ms McGuinness,

The Queen wishes me to thank you for the pair of warm woollen mittens which were delivered to Her Majesty in Edinburgh last week by, Mrs David Bowes-Lyon on your behalf. The Queen was interested to know that the mittens were made in New Zealand, where you used to live, and is so pleased to accept this very kind present. Her Majesty greatly appreciated your message of good wishes and your thoughtful gesture.

Yours sincerely, Susan Hussey, Lady-in-Waiting

So how did Monaghan’s own Elizabeth, she who is noted of late for her scrumptious YouTube cookery channel and before that for her many adventures in everything from Airbnb to her long-running Kiwi Country Clothing endeavours….
