EirGrid’s plans for the North South electricity interconnector that was granted planning permission in the Republic eighteen months ago face a new challenge, this time from a government Minister. Cavan Monaghan Fine Gael Deputy and Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, has called on her Cabinet colleague Denis Naughten TD to carry out a full review of the feasibility of the project. She also wants Mr Naughten, who is Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, to withdraw the tender process he approved last September for the provision of 400 pylons, covering the route on both sides of the border.
