The General Practitioner service is in absolute crisis at the moment, according to two prominent local doctors. Some practices in the Co. Monaghan area are closed to new patients. At one surgery in Carrickmacross, existing patients are queueing up before opening time at the start of the week in the hope of getting appointments. Meanwhile the HSE has confirmed in response to a query from Sinn Féin Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin that final plans have been agreed for a new primary care centre for Carrickmacross, to be ready by 2020.
