Councillors at Monday afternoon’s meeting of Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District were extremely concerned about the two recent killings where teenagers were both the victims and alleged perpetrators. They also commented on the murder of Jastine Valdez in Wicklow. Cathaoirleach Padraig McNally opened the topic by proposing a vote of sympathy with the families of the three young people who had lost their lives in such an horrific fashion of late. In particular, he wished to extend sincerest sympathy to the Filipino community, living both locally and nationally, on the loss of Jastine Valdez, one of their own. There were quite a number of Filipinos living in Carrickmacross, he observed, adding that they were honest and hard-working. Jastine, he said with regret, found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. The 24-year-old student was abducted by Mark Hennessy (40) on Saturday, May 19th and it is understood that she was killed shortly afterwards. Mark Hennessy was shot dead….
