SHANTONAGH MAN MAKES HISTORY AT BALMORAL SHOW

A Castleblayney man made history at the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society Balmoral Show last Friday. A cow owned by James Lambe from Shantonagh became the first animal of the Dairy Shorthorn breed to win the highly prestigious dairy interbreed championship in Balmoral’s 150- year history. The scale of the achievement was described by one of Mr Lambe’s neighbours this week as akin to “the Monaghan footballers winning the Sam Maguire!” Mr Lambe himself explained the success in straight-forward terms: “She’s the best cow I’ve ever owned,” he told Farmers Weekly.
