MONAGHAN PEOPLE URGED TO BACK NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR HEALTH SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS

The re-activation of the Monaghan Hospital retention and action campaigns was advocated this week by the coordinator of a national movement seeking to bring about improvements in the Irish health service. In an interview with the Northern Standard in Monaghan last Thursday, Cyril Brennan said reductions in local hospital services and regular local controversies about ambulance response times to medical emergency situations in the North Monaghan area were symptomatic of the malaise afflicting health provision nationally.

While he expressed the view that seeking to have a full Accident & Emergency Department restored to Monaghan Hospital was an unrealistic objective at the present time given the major infrastructural investment and buy-in from consultants that would be required, Mr Brennan said the very least that Monaghan people deserved was a reliable locally based ambulance…
