Team Malachy is building save best till last in cracking croker clash with Dubs

Monaghan finished their Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign on a winning note when they inflicted a first defeat on Dublin in this year’s competition, Fintan Kelly plundering that result with a brilliantly executed point 4 minutes into stoppage time at the end of an always interesting if never cutting edge encounter in headquarters on Sunday afternoon last.

However for a game that was effectively a dead rubber, it provided a good level of entertainment for the 22,000 plus crowd and the Dublin supporters who were massed into two sections on Hill 16 brought their own colour to the occasion, although going home somewhat grim faced and disappointed. The Monaghan supporters on the other hand were smiling and buoyant and quite a few dallied in the environs of Croke Park afterwards to savour the taste of victory over the Metropolitans in their own backyard, Monaghan’s thirdtime to achieve that outcome.
