MONAGHAN CONGO VETERAN WHO SERVED AT JADOTVILLE TO BE REMEMBERED IN BALLYBAY

Former soldiers from Monaghan and their colleagues will gather in Ballybay on Sunday to hold a memorial service and render honours to a United Nations veteran Sgt Patrick Duffy, who was one of the group known as the “Jadotville Tigers”.

The ceremony has been organised by the 29th Infantry Battalion Association, whose members recently attended a Jadotville Day in Athlone to pay tribute to the members of ‘A’ Company 35th Infantry Battalion.

Sgt Duffy’s parent unit was 2 Hospital Company and he was posted to the Congo in 1961. He and his colleagues held out against Katangan rebels during the siege of…
