A more clinical Carrickmacross secured promotion back to senior ranks at the first time of asking when they proved that little bit too adept in most aspects of play for Aughnamullen in this keenly contested and always entertaining McElvaney’s Waste and Recycling Intermediate Football Championship Final that was played in excellent conditions in Inniskeen on Sunday afternoon last.

Carrickmacross were only headed once in the entire contest and that after less than 2 minutes when Aughnamullen opened the scoring with a point by Colin Clerkin. The opening half was a closely contested affair with chances at a premium as Aughnamullen set up defensively and Carrickmacross found it difficult to penetrate their defensive shield but they gradually came to grips ….
