The entire North Monaghan community was plunged into mourning this week after the death of a well-known local man in a tragic workplace accident. Gary Askin, aged 28, of Cornacrieve, Emyvale died at the Cornacrieve Mushrooms processing plant on Wednesday last, September 13.
Emergency services were called to the plant shortly after 8 pm to attend to three men suffering breathing difficulties, Gardaí stated. Accounts of the incident suggest that Gary was working alongside his brother Stephen and a Polish colleague when Stephen became trapped in a wood chip silo.
