A rural bus service could be up and running in Co Monaghan by September if a local initiative gets approved. Padraic Smyth, Manager of Cavan Monaghan Transport Coordination Unit CLG (CMTCU) met with members of Ballybay- Clones Municipal District at their July meeting and explained that the Rural Transport Programme was being rebranded as Local Link Cavan and Monaghan.

The service, which will be launched nationally at this year ’s Ploughing Championships, is currently based in Cootehill and was, according to Mr Smyth, in a real growth and development phase. The Cavan service ran six days a week, eight times a day and more on weekends transporting close to 1,000 people around the county each week, including students.

Mr Smyth said he wanted to see a similar service operating in Co Monaghan with Monaghan….
