In round two of the 2016 All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers, Cavan eked out a 2-12 to 0-10 victory on home soil over Carlow. A one point win for Monaghan this Saturday (7pm) in Netwatch Cullen Park will be just as satisfying, says ‘erstwhile Cavan boss Terry Hyland. Hyland guided Cavan to victory over the Barrowsiders last year and says it’ll be a “major surprise” if Monaghan don’t progress to the fourth round of this year’s Qualifiers.

“Monaghan are a proven, experienced division one side whereas Carlow failed to get out of division one this year so the odds are stacked in favour of a Monaghan win,” the former Cavan boss opined. “I think since they (Monaghan) were knocked out of the Ulster championship they’ve been totally focussed on the Qualifiers and their emphatic win…
