BROTHERS GIVEN SUSPENDED SENTENCES FOR “ODIOUS” UNPROVOKED ASSAULT – VICTIM TELLS CIRCUIT COURT OF DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY PROBLEMS SINCE INCIDENT

“I fell into a state of depression after the incident and I have not been the same person since,” a 33-year-old bar manager told a sittings of the Circuit Criminal Court in Monaghan Town on Tuesday when recalling an incident in which he was subjected to an unprovoked assault after leaving a casino premises.

The court was told that the injured party, Brendon Deery, was set upon by brothers James and John Connolly who kicked him on the ground when he fell after being headbutted. John Connolly, Dundrummonds, Scotstown was given a suspended sentence of 15 months’ imprisonment when he pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Deery, causing him harm, at Dublin Street in Monaghan Town on June 1 2015.
