A resurgent Cavan sent Monaghan crashing out of the Ulster minor football championship when the sides met in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday evening last.

Goals were crucial to this Cavan victory as they found the Monaghan net on three occasions, twice in the second-half, while their goalkeeper Gary O’Rourke also played a vital part in the victory with a number of top-class saves.

Cavan got off to the better start and had opened a 5 points lead by the end of the first quarter but Monaghan now took an increasing grip on proceedings as they held the home side scoreless from the 12th minute of the first half until 2 minutes after the resumption while in between they rattled over 8 points without reply to go in leading by 3 points at the break.

Monaghan were in a good position at this stage to push on but it was Cavan who seized the initiative on the restart and ….
