Last Saturday was set aside as the date when the children of the County could come to Cloghan and meet their heroes, the members of the Monaghan County team who will do battle with Fermanagh in the Ulster senior football championship on Saturday, May 20th, in Clones.

These open days are now a feature of the GAA right across the country and it is a concept that is growing in popularity year on year with huge crowds of children turning out on Saturday last to have their photographs taken with particular players, have their sports gear signed and collect their autographs.

The big open day on Saturday last, Meet and Greet Your Heroes, was run in conjunction with the staging of a series of blitz competitions in both the morning and the afternoon which helped swell the numbers but there could be no denying the enthusiasm that the young people …
