Monaghan qualified for the Nicky Rackard Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2013 with a four-point win over Donegal in Inniskeen last Saturday.

Donegal started much stronger, but Monaghan hung in throughout the first half and after changing ends just a point down, they took the game to their opponents after the restart. With Fergal Rafter on form from frees on his way to a tally of 0-10 and Tadhg Campbell finding the net, Monaghan gained the upper hand to end their wait for a knock-out win over their Ulster rivals.

Mark and Treanor, Éanna Mac Suibhne, Brian McGuigan and Colm Meegan also starred for Monaghan, who ended up deserving winners, despite the best efforts of the likes of Declan Coulter, Lee Henderson and Joe Boyle for Donegal. Donegal got off to a dream start with a goal in the second minute when Monaghan were unable to clear their lines and Gerard Gilmore knocked the ball into the net. Declan…
