The concession of two goals midway through the second half cost Monaghan dearly in this Nicky Rackard Cup clash at St Mary’s Park, Castleblayney, on Saturday afternoon last.

Overall this could be regarded by Monaghan as a game that simply got away from them with the concession of two soft goals in the 16th and 18th minutes of the second-half. Monaghan missed a number of reasonable chances, a couple from frees particularly in the first half and a second half penalty, conceding hard won possession rather cheaply at times as well as being the victims of some rather baffling decisions by Carlow referee Patrick Murphy.
