Aughnamullen continue to lead the way in the Intermediate Football League with their gritty 1-16 to 0-13 win over hosts Toome again highly impressive.

The Sarsfields hit the ground running with a goal by Mark McArdle after only three minutes.

The hosts nipped away at the Sarsfields’ heels all day and they pulled it back to just a point, 0-4 to 1-2, after 17 minutes only for Kevin Sheridan to give the winners-elect extra breathing space.

Thereafter a brace of points from the in-form Chris Keenan in the run into the short whistle helped stretch Aughnamullen’s lead to 1-8 to 0-5 at the break.

Toome threw everything at their opponents on the restart and three unanswered points asked further questions of the Sarsfields before a 41st minute point from Alan Sheridan stopped the rot.

The visitors still led by 1-13 to 0-10 with less than 10 minutes left to play. The goals Toome craved never looked like materialising.

Meanwhile a hat-trick of fisted goals made all the difference in Corduff as neighbours…
