The manager’s view

A very pleased Malachy O’Rourke reckons the nature of Monaghan’s display in beating Kerry last Sunday was just as satisfying as picking up another two NFL points.

O’Rourke says his side handled the pressure of going into the lion’s den very well and rebounded superbly after conceding an early goal which asked some serious questions of Monaghan:
“We are delighted with the win obviously, but maybe even more so with the performance,” O’Rourke confirmed, “because there are times that you win and you don’t perform well on the day.

“We knew coming down here it was going to be tough and I suppose we set the platform for ourselves in the first half. We set up well, Kerry got a goal at a bad time for us but after that we got a goal back and at half-time we knew we were very much in the game.

“Then it was a case of trying to control our play in the second-half and not try to rush things, but to keep control of the ball and we did that very well and we were able to pick off scores and we knew we would have chances when we had the wind advantage and…
